From here: www.htcldarkside.proboards67.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=julymissions&thread=1183963749&page=1To here we now stand on the brink of the beginning. With GenCon looming infront of us I'd like to thank everyone that has come before us...walking on their backs we stand among giants. TDS The_Frog_69 Roadford01 They made the last campaign possible. Thanks. As we move forward into the future we walk among the stars....towards our destiny. Towards the ultimate control of all things. As we close the chapter on Broken Alliances we find that the universe has become a more complex thing...something wicked this way comes. The Word Of Blake has risen its ugly head and with it the universe shall shatter. And so we stand ready...to face them and all their fury. ----------------------------------------------- Faction War 2007/2008 What will it bring? The rule book has been flushed out and the missions are easily understandable and easier to do. I'm not writing 10 Gagillion missions now, just one set per faction. What will the Word of Blake bring with them? I've been thinking about this for a long time and as we don't have any units for the WoB...what if someone wants to play them? How would they participate? Make your mark! Be the first to come up with the suggestion that works for bringing in the WoB faction to this Faction War.MercenariesWhat do we do about Mercs? Should we keep the Military Budget? UniquesShould we keep to one unique? Should we just open it up to any unit in your army? [glow=red,6,400] WoB[/glow] It's my thoughts that WoB players should be allowed the following army list: 10 Mechs, upto 5 of them may be Mercs, upto 2 of them may be uniques 1 Commander: Must be a GS or Legendary Pilot. This pilot's ability is received when this pilot is in any mech of the proper weight class OR I assign that commander a pilot ability 20 Vehicles: From any faction, no faction may be represented by more than 8 units 20 Infantry: From any faction, no faction may be represented by more than 8 units <Special> Formations: 2-3 Movement Formations, 2-3 Close Combat, 2-3 Range Combat. Infantry may be given Assault Orders, Units receive 1 click of impact damage for Assault orders (At the end of the clean up stage). <Special> Infantry all receive +2 +1 +1 to their dials (Damage, Movement, Defense) and always start out on their 2nd click. (Remember they're Cybernetic). Thoughts? Also: Winner will receive one set of custom painted WoB units for Classic Battle Tech or Mech Warrior.

I look forward to the New Faction War. I didnt get to play much during the first one, but I will try harder to make the new one. Before the first one started, I was conflicted on who I should represent in the Faction War. So I decided to join the ranks of House Steiner. I have now seen the error of my ways and shall reign as Galaxy Commander of the Rasalhaque Dominion.
"Beware of the Sleeping Bear....we are meaner if awaken."
I do have some suggestions for this faction war, in regards to the military budget. While you are only allowed 1 unique in your standard build out, I would like to propose the ability to pay for additional uniques, as long as they are not being used by other players. The price of these units should be cheaper than Mercs. They would be 1 time payment....If for some reason you want to play a unique that someone else ownes...you can pay that person to borrow that unique for the particular missions. Now I dont want to make it too complicated, because of the original rules. This can be made simple. Now I will say that I came up with this partially because my RD faction doesnt have alot of commons. I would like to have more than 1 unique. If we dont decide to adopt this, then I will forfeit my merc budget for 2 additional RD uniques for my army. I would love to here everyones input.
Good Hunting,

Looking froward to the new incarnation of the faction war. WOB sounds like a great enemy, one you love to hate. As to how you would play them i am not sure, the easiest answer would be you don't. Make them the antagonist faction, the forces your opponent plays if you win the roll. Another option would be to declare a specific faction WOB. like one no one picks for the faction war. Com star would be an obvious choice but their aren't enough units, 1 i think. I really like Karls idea of giving them a faction ability. The one he suggested is perfect. It seems a reasonable way to handle it. Mercs is a another question. I personally would love to run a merc army. But the unit selection is poor if you go unit pure( Wolfs Drgoons, Endiri light horse, Etc.) If you allowed any mecc unit that might open it up a little. The other problem is most of the good mercs are ether unique or gun slingers and no way a army of those would be balanced against other factions. I hope something can be worked out i would love to have my own merc command. I can see it now... "Frogs flayers" or maybe" the 69" ;D O well a guy can wish. I think we should keep some incarnation of the military budget intact unless it becomes to cumbersome or difficult to manage. It adds a touch of realism to the game and gives motivation to succeed. do well get paid, loose and go broke. Now mind you this could be a burden on less skillful players or people new to the game. The only concern i have is that their are some new players at my venue who are interested in joining the faction war but i don't know how religiously they could, or would, Keep track of their budgets. I would hate for it to be a kill point for anyone interested in playing. As to the question of uniques, i am of the opinion that allowing more would be preferable. At the same time i agree with Karls assessment that they should be rare. If both players field armies of nothing but their factions unique pieces every time they play it gets a little ridiculous. If this game is to a least somewhat represent a realistic situation, as far as a game played with plastic mechs can, it is unlikely that all of a factions heroes and VIPs will be involved in every battle that takes place. Maybe we could implement a system where if you use a unique one month you could not use it the next. Or only allow one unique on each build. I would at least like to be able to have a minimum of two on my army list. I can sympathize with those of you who choose factions that don't have a lot of commons in your faction. I have a new player at my venue who has expressed interest in joining the faction war, but has just started playing the game, and does not have a lot of units too choose from period. He feels he may be at a disadvantage because of this. I have given him all the extra units i have but he seems to favor the Wolfs and they also have poor base unit selection. I am trying to convince him to play a easier faction. Maybe Dracs or( Shudder...) Laio. Well thats my two cents for now. Hope the new faction war goes well for everyone. And a open invite to anyone in the Houston area, if your in town drop a line. Karl will tell you its normally an easy win at our venue and we let the new guys win anyway. ;D Its always good to see new faces and old friends.

Frog, i agree that there should be more uniques but not entire armies of them. maybe there should be a rule like '2 uniques max- the one with the higher point cost is the "general" and he gains the command ability, the second acts as the lieutenant, hes just a regular unique.'
Also, I don't know about the wobbies as their own thing, didn't they get blasted to hell? maybe instead like bandits or mariks. Just a thought.

Hey I would play as the wobbies, I'd also look at giving them some of the different faction pride ablities. As far a uniques are concerned I like the idea of making the command lance or star uniques so 4-5 Unis or LE's. Could we also include die rolls to see if the pilots ejects or dies with their machine. 1 pilots dies 2 pilot mortally wounded and removed from combat 3 critically injured out 6weeks 4 pilot bruised 5 and 6 ejact cleanly unless your a crusader clan and then you can only eject on a 5or6 all else fails. just a thought
I also think the that as a hinderance to the WOB no mission cards and no planetary conditions.
look forward to Rd 2 thunderfut

I'm still here, just preping for 4 conventions: GenCon, AnimeFest, FenCon, and Wiseguy con. Also have my son with me for the next two weeks (then off to GenCon). Plus I'm in the middle of a move so be patient.
Concept with new Faction War is that I'm going to try to get more of the other venues from around the country involved and on board. And instead of running a year long campaign (which seems to bog down) I'll run 1/2 year campaigns. We'll start off last week of Sept and run through end of March allowing a break in December (no game) for the hollidays.
I've got some really exciting news that I may be able to share with you all after GenCon.
I will read this thread more carefully and respond soon.

Would you be interested in using CBT figs that you paint and then I'll generate those units and you'll print them out on paper (kinda like you'd do for CBT, maybe put them in a sheet protector and use a grease pencil or a water marker to "Click" them). That's how you'd do your heat and damage. I could do them for infantry, vehicles and Mechs. We can go that route OR we can proxy. Which do you all think would be the best way to go? MILITARY BUDGET & UNIQUESWhile you are only allowed 1 unique in your standard build out, I would like to propose the ability to pay for additional uniques, as long as they are not being used by other players. The price of these units should be cheaper than Mercs. They would be 1 time payment....If for some reason you want to play a unique that someone else ownes...you can pay that person to borrow that unique for the particular missions. MeGaZiPP This brings up a great concept. Since there are a zillion MechWarrior players, and I'm trying to get more venues involved, it stands to reason that every unique will be used up pretty quickly. It also stands to reason that players would like to have more than one unique in his/her army. Since that makes sense it seems to me that a reasonable approach to this whole "unique" issue is to just change the rules to state: [glow=yellow,2,300] Players may only have any number of unique units, be it 'Mech, Vehicle, or infantry, in his/her army. However, only the first unit is at no cost. Each unique unit after the first costs its rank value to bring into your army list. That purchase is made using your military budget and is a one time fee. [/glow]This will make it simple, and give everyone the ability to have as many Uniques in their army as they want. Discuss this here: www.htcldarkside.proboards67.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1186691927
