For those of you that are looking to help me build the missions I felt that a thread on how to build them would be appropriate.
It's pretty easy really. Each month a faction will continue it's progress through the galaxy and in this on going storyline conqure or be defeated. Initially I tried to build each succeeding months missions on the previous but the flow chart got too complex. So I had to go back to the basics.
Mission 1:
This is where you'll start. Add a story background and lead into the mission itself.
Mission 2:
They've failed mission one and this is their retreat mission...sorta a way for them to possibly get back on track. Here you give a bit of a story as to what happened and what they're going to be facing. Build it up with a bit of hope.
Mission 3:
They've won mission one. They march forward towards their goal. Add a story as to how good they're doing and move them forward towards their goal.
Mission 4:
They're screwed...they lost twice in a row and now they're getting crushed. Add a story as to how screwed they're getting and build it up as though this is the last hope.
Mission 5:
They've succeeded in every event and now stand on the precipice of the kingdom...they're going to make it. They will win their prize. Build a story as to how good their doing and that their goal is in sight.
The formula for mission win loss goes like this:
Mission 1
Win: Mission 3
Fail : Mission 2
Mission 2
Win: Mission 3
Fail : Mission 4
Mission 3
Win: Mission 5
Fail: Mission 2
Mission 4
Win: Well next month they'll pull their bacon outta the fire
Fail: Next month they'll see how their defeat affected their holding and see the map change to show how screwed up they are. The home world isn't impressed and someone has to answer for the failure.
Mission 5
Win: Yeah! They succeed and get their goal. Next month they'll see their holdings expand
Fail: Well they did pretty darn good so not too bad. They almost succeded.
Objective:
When you write a mission you're looking at what happened last month, take into account that their faction won or lost and move towards writing this months mission along those lines.
For example:
Last month:
House Stienar won at Hobby Town Fort Worth
The Republic won at Bo's Restaurant and Games
And Clan Wolfe in Exile won at Mondo Atomica
So that'll move the map forward for those factions
House Kurita, Clan Nova Cat, and House Davion came in second
They'll get a bonus of some kind...but they didn't take the day so not as much.
The the rest: They didn't do well and so those factions suffer.
--------
The Future Hope:
Wins are based upon the games at the venue. The player that did the best at the venue scores a win for his/her faction. The concept is that with more venues participating the more totals we'll have and thus can compair the wins. So eventually, the hope is, 100 venues: out of those 100 venues the most wins went to House X...they win that month. So we'll have the ability to do averages. Then everyone will participate.
That's pretty much it.
Thanks again for the help.
